Kelli Prine submits the above, and asks “This student keeps factoring the terms and canceling.  What can I do to clarify the process?”

I expect some excellent comments on this one. Don’t disappoint.

Gregory Taylor sends this along, and asks a really great question about the work:

“Look past the problem of the original triangle having no 90 degrees… they know enough to run a (problematic) check on height to investigate ambiguity of sine.  Why would they even do that if they thought it was a right triangle?”

Any answers?

Say something smart in the comments about why kids forget “little” things on problems.  Or, alternatively, disagree with the premise of my first question. (How’s that for a lousy prompt?)

Thanks to Mark Kingsbury for the submission!

What’s up with the above? Say something smart in the comments about the implications of a mistake like this one. What’s another mistake that you would expect this student to make in the future? What’s a mistake that you wouldn’t expect the student to make?

Thanks to Jonathan Newman for the submission.

The most interesting histogram ever.

What does the student understand, and what doesn’t she?

Say something intelligent in the comments, and then head over to James Cleveland’s place, for the submission is his.
